Nepal is a landlocked country with few industries and limited job opportunities. Women generally have low levels of education and become housewives after marriage. In 2022, Tzu Chi started vocational training classes, the first course being sewing, to provide women with more opportunities to earn a living. On graduation day for the first advanced sewing class, the teacher and students wore their own handmade gowns to attend in style. The presentation of graduation certificates was witnessed by Lin Jingxian, the Deputy CEO of Taiwan Tzu Chi Foundation. Six months of hard work had paid off. Receiving their graduation certificates meant that they had acquired the skills to make a living as well as a promising future ahead.
